Every year, color research company Pantone invites a group from around the world to discuss what color best describes the world’s zeitgeist, and announce it as Pantone’s Color of the Year. This year, for the first time, there are two.
Rose Quartz and Serenity, two pastel hues, were selected “as an antidote to modern day stresses,” the company says in a statement.
The warm and cool hue combination was also selected to reflect blurring gender conventions in fashion. As the company explains: “This more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity.”
