The San Diego County Board of Supervisors asked staffers to review the county building code for changes that would promote more energy-savings and more sustainable designs. The county has already pushed a green agenda by waiving permit fees for home solar systems, reducing fees for construction projects that meet state energy requirements, and adopting regulations for solar and wind projects. Staffers were given about four months to work up a plan that includes estimates of the time and costs required to implement the potential changes, such as pre-wiring buildings for rooftop solar and electric vehicle charging.
