Estimates from Census Construction Spending data indicate that total private residential construction spending declined 0.3 percent in August to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $449.2 billion. The record-breaking gains registered by multifamily housing were not enough to offset the decreases in single-family and home-improvement spending.
