Since 1981, single females have bought homes at a higher rate than single males and unmarried couples.
The National Association of Realtors’ Economists’ Outlook blog notes that in 2015, single females comprised 15 percent of homebuyers, a larger share than single males (9 percent) and unmarried couples (7 percent). Married couples took up 67 percent of the market.
Single female buyers reached a peak of 22 percent of the market in 2006. The highest rate of buying for single males was 12 percent in 2010.
