While women still earn 83.1 cents for every dollar a man makes, a new study by LendingTree reveals that single women own roughly 2.46 million more homes than single men, Forbes reports. Of all owner-occupied homes across the U.S., single women own 12.9% compared with 10.06% of homes owned by single men, and single women are more likely than men to be homeowners in 48 of 50 states.
Louisiana is home to the highest share of woman-owned properties, with a total of 15.16% owner-occupied households statewide. The homeownership gap between single women and single men is highest in Florida—a 4.55% discrepancy.
North Dakota and South Dakota are the only states where single men own a higher share of homes than single women. In North Dakota, single men own 12.70% of the state’s owner-occupied homes (the highest share in any state), while single women own 11.08%. In South Dakota, those figures are 11.97% and 11.29%.
