The home building recovery has been slow and steady, and nearly nine years after the housing crisis, that’s probably a good thing because it will buoy economic growth for some time. The latest data from NAHB and the U.S. Commerce Department shows that builders broke ground on 784,000 single-family homes in 2016. NAHB chief economist Robert Dietz forecasts a 9 to 10 percent gain in 2017 and 2018.
