With a 90 percent graduation rate, a 70 percent college attendance rate, and $21,138 of funding per student, New Jersey was determined to be the best state for education in a study by SmartAsset.
The site ranked all 50 states based on six metrics, including student-teacher ratio and AP exam classes and scores.
The top eight states are all in the northern part of the east coast. Following New Jersey is Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maryland, and Virginia. Pennsylvania finished in a tie for 10th.
As we’ve seen in the past few years, most of the states with the best public schools are located in this region. In each of these states, funding per student and four-year high school graduation rates are higher than average.
Nevada was ranked 50th for the third year in a row. The state’s four-year graduation rate is only 71 percent.
