As Pro Builder has covered previously, tiny houses continue to gain popularity. The New York Times looked at this growing section of the industry, highlighting a few tiny house companies like Montainer and Wheelhaus.
Montainer homes are shipping containers that are eight feet wide, nine-and-a-half feet tall and between 20 and 40 feet long. Customers can either live in the individual modules, combine them, or add them to existing homes.
The product isn’t perfect, as Montainer homes lack wheels (and thus need to meet building code and permitting requirements), and banks aren’t handing out mortgages for tiny houses just yet.
