Veterans tend to live in affordable smaller metros and rural areas, Trulia Chief Economist Jed Kolko says.
Kolko reports that roughly 1 in 12 civilian adults are veterans, “but in some smaller metros that figure is as high as 1 in 5.” The places where veterans tend to settle are usually near military bases, and in places with fewer immigrants. Colorado Springs and Virginia Beach have the highest concentration of veterans among the largest 100 metros, while Miami, New York, and Los Angeles have the lowest.
