The Waste House at the University of Brighton in the U.K. was constructed using 85 percent waste material such as plastic razors, videocassettes, denim jeans, and toothbrushes. The waste in the carbon-negative structure was used mostly for insulation, and sensors will be used to monitor the effectiveness of this strategy. Builders constructed the home with plywood beams, columns, and timber joists salvaged from a demolished house.
