Washington State makes it easier for homeowners to install rooftop solar panels
Changes to state law could reduce project costs up to $2,500
The State of Washington’s Building Code Council approved a change in state law to allow installation of simple rooftop solar power systems without review by an engineer. The move is expected to reduce project costs by $500 to $2,500 and eliminate eight weeks of review time.
The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld a federal court ruling in favor of Washington’s State Building Codes Council over standards for increasing the energy efficiency of homes that it adopted in 2009.
