Glare and heat emanating from some metal roofs in Wrightsville Beach, N.C., have become a problem for some residents. “I would think you could allow metal roofs in 90% of the beach, but there may be some isolated cases where it would not be a good idea,” says a structural engineer asked to appear before the town’s planning board. The engineer recommends that the town only allow the use of non-gloss painted metal roofs with neutral colors and to restrict color options by using ASTM International ratings.
