A new demographic tool from the Pew Research Center highlights the differences between urban, suburban, and rural communities.
The Center found that the majority of urban residents are nonwhite, while suburban and rural communities hold white majorities. Rural areas are seeing residents leave for suburbs and cities, and the two latter community types have seen an uptick in foreign immigrants, leading to growing populations.
Widening demographic gaps between urban, suburban, and rural counties could help explain why people tend to feel misunderstood by those from other community types, according to a survey by the research center.
