World War II veteran Mischa Seligman wants to donate his 6,500-sf patch of property in San Francisco’s Diamond Heights to affordable housing, but finding a developer is harder than he thought.
Seligman has secured designs from an architect, and a very willing public lender, but “Seligman has been unable to find a nonprofit housing builder willing to take both ownership of the eucalyptus-shaded land and guarantee the units will remain permanently affordable,” The San Francisco Chronicle reports.
At 93 years old, the army veteran and retired electrical engineer is wondering if he’s running out of time. According to the Chronicle, Seligman’s inability to find a development partner exposes a weakness in the city’s affordable housing infrastructure.
