Lennar Urban is building a new mixed-use neighborhood from the ground up on top of a former naval base in San Francisco’s Bayview-Hunters Point, and it's trying to lure tech giants to occupy its office space.
Skepticism shrouds the project, called the Shipyard, as the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood lags in public transit connection, it’s a hike from downtown, and is still undergoing a $1 billion effort to clean up radiological contamination.
But some real estate experts say critics are missing the point, because an entirely new neighborhood will be built in its place.
San Francisco Business Times reports that Google is in early discussions with Lennar about the 3 million square feet of offices at the Shipyard, possibly to house its YouTube division.
