In an op-ed for the Washington Post, gender and income inequality writer Brigid Schulte summarizes the current Millennial attitude toward marriage.
“According to new research, Millennials are not showing many signs of interest in getting hitched as they get older, and, as a result, the marriage rate is expected to fall by next year to its lowest level to date,” Schulte writes.
Reasons for this decline include a delay of marriage because of economics, the decline of Americans identifying as religious, and the availability of alternatives such as cohabitation or raising a child alone.
