According to Redfin, in an effort to reverse falling house values, three Philadelphia neighborhoods changed their name during the 2000s. New monikers initially helped all three, but only two maintained success from a rebrand.
Newbold, formerly a portion of Point Breeze, and Passyunk Square, which used to be a part of South Philadelphia, both experienced positive changes in home value growth since the recession. But, in Midtown Village, which was once known as the Gayborhood, home values plummeted 70 percent from 2009 to 2014.
