A new type of septic system from NextGen Septic of Cincinnati claims to eliminate the need for a leach field and treats effluent so the system’s output is rendered clean enough to be discharged into the environment and even used for watering landscape.
The system has been installed in 37 homes since earning certification from Kentucky and Ohio, according to the Energy & Environmental Building Alliance (EEBA) newsletter, and enables the construction of homes on lots that otherwise would be unbuildable because of poor soil conditions or water scarcity.
The NextGen system is undergoing tests at the National Sanitation Foundation and company president and inventor Rakesh Govind expects certification from the lab by September. That designation would make NextGen a recognized system in most of the country as opposed to seeking state-by-state approval.
