Tedford Housing, which operates the Midcoast’s only homeless shelter in Brunswick, ME, is building a new, 17,568-square-foot facility with the help of a $500,000 donation from the Mid Coast-Parkview Health/LincolnHealth Community Health Improvement Committee. The new shelter will have more capacity with 24 adult beds and four-bedroom units for 10 families compared to the current 16-bed and six-family shelter.
The new facility is expected to break ground in early 2024 in Brunswick and be completed by the end of the year, The Times Record reports.
“We know that one of the more significant barriers to health is the lack of housing, whether temporary or permanent,” Cindy Wade, president of LincolnHealth and co-chairperson of the committee, said in a statement. “Tedford is the only emergency-housing resource serving Lincoln County, and we are excited about the potential of enhanced access for our community.”
