A team of students and professors from Barcelona’s Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia is developing a wall that cools as temperature rises.
The result may be a breakthrough in green home design as it will allow the elimination of energy-hogging air-conditioning systems. The wall uses a material called hydrogel that swells to 400 times its size when placed in water. The wall will slowly evaporate in hot weather, cooling the indoor air by about 9 or 10 degrees, Fast Co. Exist reports.
