Just because a locale is labeled a “college town” doesn’t mean all its residents want to live like it’s Animal House 24/7. Take the new housing being offered in Philadelphia’s University City, for example.
A 28-story tower, packed with rental units and amenities such as a roof deck with a heated saltwater pool, a fire pit, and outdoor televisions isn’t aimed at any of the thousands undergraduate students in the area. Instead, its target is young professionals—junior faculty, office workers, and young doctors.
It is these people between the ages of 20 and 34 that make up about half of University City’s 50,600 residents. It is also these young residents of University City, an area that tends to command high salaries, that developers have in mind when creating new luxury-housing units, reports The New York Times.
