A prototype of a four-bedroom “home of the future” to be built near Rio de Janeiro will have many innovations.
The foundation will be an elevated grid composed of slabs with plastic balls between them, allowing space for plumbing, electrical wiring, and any technology that may be installed later. Prefabricated modules will be constructed off-site and then placed between pillars to create rooms and living spaces. The kitchen will include a scanner to assess food’s nutritional value and calories, an energy consumption panel to monitor things like water and food levels, a 3-D printer-like machine to churn out finger foods, and a hydroponic kitchen garden.
